Plus Programs – Summer Camp
The Aardvark Plus Programs combine two dynamic components to create one amazing program: a long-term experience in Israel and a summer working at an American Jewish Summer Camp! Ideal for students from outside of North America, particularly for students from Australia, South Africa, and Europe, there are three options available:
- Gap Year Plus A (mid-January – mid-December) – 9 months in Israel & 2 months in USA
- Gap Year Plus B (September – August) – 9 months in Israel & 2 months in USA
- Semester Plus (mid-January – August) – 5 months in Israel & 2 months in USA
In addition to enjoying all the wonderful core components that Aardvark Israel offers, participants will have a week and a half of free time to explore Israel, and a week and a half of mandatory programming. In mid-June, you will fly to the United States, beginning the American summer experience with three days of sightseeing in New York City. You will see a Broadway show, stroll down Fifth Avenue, visit the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and more! Following that, you will visit Washington, D.C. for a three day tour of sightseeing in the nation’s capital. Then you will be off to camp where you will participate in an orientation and staff training a week prior to the arrival of the campers. Aardvark participants will be matched with a job in camp based on their skills and interests. Jobs may include teaching sports, arts, nature, swimming, cooking, or other specialty areas, or serving as a bunk counselor (madrich/a). Placement will be made based on personal interviews directly with the camp director in November and December.
The Aardvark Plus Programs are run in partnership with the NJY Camps, one of the United States’ premier Jewish camping organizations, with seven camps clustered at two locations serving children, families and seniors. The camps draw more than 4,000 campers each summer from numerous communities, primarily in the New York-New Jersey region. The NJY Camps offers the highest quality overnight camping experience in an environment infused with the richness of Jewish life. With an extraordinary range of comprehensive programming, the NJY Camps offers a welcome place for a broad spectrum of Jewish children—from across various denominations, interests, special needs, and backgrounds. The NJY Camps seeks to help each and every camper develop and grow new skills, greater self-confidence, and a strong Jewish identity and commitment to our heritage that will help shape the course of their lives.

Aardvark Plus participants will be fully integrated throughout the time in Israel with participants from around the world, including from North America, and this will serve to help prepare them for the time spent in the USA.
* Final acceptance to the camp portion of the program is contingent on the approval of the camp director.
