Student of the Week – Daniel Nurick
My name is Daniel Nurick, I’m from Vancouver, British Columbia, and I’m spending the fall semester of Aardvark Israel in Tel Aviv. I chose to go on Aardvark as my sister, Gal, did it 4 years ago and she absolutely loved it. Luckily for me, I listened to her advice, came to Israel on Aardvark and I am currently having the time of my life!
So far, I have enjoyed pretty much everything – however, the highlight of my experience thus far must be my internship at a vegan restaurant called Sultana. While I personally am not vegan, I have grown to love vegan food and find myself wanting to eat vegan more than ever. Furthermore, my internship has gradually given me the independence to run the front of the restaurant, which includes taking orders, all in Hebrew, and cooking food in front of customers, which is thrilling! The five or so hours I spend there on four days every week seem to go by in a flash. Apart from my internship, one of the biggest surprises has been the great people of Israel. I feel Israelis have a reputation for being rude and obnoxious and while for the most part this is true, Israelis can also be surprisingly friendly and helpful.
I am currently having a great time and I am looking forward to more great and new experiences with the friends I have made in the country I love most. Lastly, for all those looking to spend a year in Israel, I would recommend Aardvark Israel for its mix of great planned activities and free time, which allows us to explore our interests and Israeli society!
Overall, I’m having a great time in Israel with Aardvark. From traveling, to my internship, to the ridiculous amount of shawarma I’ve eaten, I’m really glad I chose to be part of Aardvark.
