Student of the Week – David Sherman
My name is David Sherman and I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. I have had a lot of experience with Judaism and Israeli culture thanks to my attendance of a private Jewish academy until fifth grade. Many of my peers and teachers were Israeli and I frequently had and have questions about the state of Israel and its culture. However, until now I have never had the chance to visit Israel.
So I started digging and found Aardvark Israel. It looked like exactly what I wanted and needed to start my journey and answer my questions. Now that I am here for the first time, my whole world has turned upside down, in a good way. My old questions are now overshadowed by so many new questions about the culture. I see with my eyes and hear from others new perspectives that make me want to know more. Tel Aviv is unlike any other city I have seen before.
The classes I have been in are very insightful, and my internship with the elementary school has taught me patience and diligence. A large part of my excitement stems from the many trips I will be going on. Next week I will be going to Spain. I am very excited to visit Barcelona because it is the birthplace of my mother. I will also be visiting the Czech Republic and China. Each of these places will raise even more insightful questions for me to ask. I have had a great experience so far and after this semester, I will no doubt turn that to an amazing experience.
I cannot wait for what comes next on this adventure.
