Hi, my name is Shane, and I’m from Los Angeles, California. I decided to join Aardvark Israel because I wanted to take a year to understand myself, grow as a person, reconnect with my Jewish roots, and have fun. I chose Aardvark Israel because of the freedom and opportunities they provide. I have the ability to meet Jews from all around the world and work with disabled kids at my internship. Even though I struggle with being halfway around the world from my family, the Aardvark community shows up for me every day. It’s amazing knowing the friends I make now will be with me for the rest of my life. I grew up very secular, and I didn’t feel like religion played a huge role in my life. Now, living in Israel, I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for being Jewish.
Fun fact: I love to cook, and I make most of the meals for my apartment.
