gap year in israel

As the semester edges closer to its end, the Barak community is making the most of every moment. Week 16 brought a mix of hands-on learning, historical exploration, and festive celebrations that kept the students engaged and inspired.

The week began on Sunday with a return to routine after the weekend. Students participated in Community Time, mini-courses, internships, and tech tours. They also tackled apartment cleaning and ended the day with engaging apartment peulot (activities).

Monday kicked off with Ulpan, followed by an inspiring session in Faces of Israel, where guest speaker Daniel Brodsky shared insights that left the group reflecting on Israeli society and culture.

On Tuesday tiyul, the group ventured north to Noat Kedumim, where they experienced life as the Maccabees once did, exploring caves and connecting with Hanukkah’s history in a unique and tangible way. The evening brought Torah Tuesday, featuring Rabbi Abigayl Unterberg, who shared the story of Hanukkah in a way that resonated deeply with the students.

Midweek fun came on Wednesday with a trip to the movies to see Wicked, where the group sang along and enjoyed a night filled with laughter and entertainment.

Thursday wrapped up the week with regular schedules, Community Time, and a sweet ending—traditional Hanukkah Sfinge (doughnuts) to celebrate the holiday spirit.

Looking ahead, the group is excited for next week’s two-day tiyul to Kibbutz Kramim in the Negev, promising more unforgettable experiences as the semester winds down.
